On January 20, the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) CI Compass Fellowship Program (CICF) launched its curriculum with its fifth cohort of students. In 2026, there are 21 undergraduate Fellows from across the US who will move through the program, learning about real-world cyberinfrastructure challenges and how to begin solving them for NSF Major and Mid-scale Facilities (MFs).
Throughout the program, which includes both asynchronous presentations and two synchronous class sessions each week, Fellows learn: about the cyberinfrastructure developed for NSF MFs; develop skills that are related to cyberinfrastructure like scientific python programming, git and coding standards, software architecture and systems, and more; and engage with NSF CI Compass and NSF MF personnel.
