Abstract
Dr. Koerber’s presentation will summarize recent research relevant to successful leadership in the STEM professions. Key focus areas will include leadership communication strategies that support diversity and leading in interdisciplinary contexts. She will share some personal experiences as a basis for discussing challenges that leaders can face in interdisciplinary contexts, and she will invite discussion so that webinar participants can learn from each other.
Bio
Amy Koerber is Professor in Communication Studies and Senior Associate Dean for Administrative & Academic Affairs at the College of Media & Communication at Texas Tech University. Her research interests include health and science communication, with a specific focus on empowering knowers who are marginalized. Her most recent book, The Predatory Paradox: Ethics, Politics, and Practices in Contemporary Scholarly Publishing, is a coauthored open access book published as the final deliverable for Dr. Koerber and her team’s U.S. National Science Foundation grant, STEM Training in Ethics of Publication Practices. Previous books include From Hysteria to Hormones: A Rhetorical History, published by Penn State University Press in April 2018, and Breast or Bottle: Contemporary Controversies in Infant-Feeding Policy and Practice, published by University of South Carolina Press in 2013.
