U.S. NSF Major Facilities

CI Compass exists to help serve the cyberinfrastructure needs of U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) Major Facilities (MFs), also referred to as Large Facilities, which represent the largest science and engineering research investments made by the NSF.

“Large facilities are increasingly dependent on advanced CI. Current and planned large facilities are producing increasing volumes of data and data products resulting in growing CI requirements, including computational, networking, data management, and processing requirements, and associated expertise.” - NSF

These 25+ facilities are diverse, spanning a great number of science domains including astronomy, climate research, ecology, natural hazard engineering research, ocean science, physics, and seismology as well as leadership-class computing systems.
