Join us for an installment in the CI Compass Webinar Series: Commercial Cloud Solutions with Bob Flynn.

This webinar will take place on Friday, September 2, 2022, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. EST / 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. PST.

Registration is free, and required.

Abstract: While public clouds offer the promise of greater efficiency and other benefits to scientific projects, major concerns still arise regarding various risks associated with a full migration to the cloud. There is entire commerce around managing deployments within cloud environments, suggesting it's not as do-it-yourself as on-premises management. Scientific projects must consider all pros and cons and risks associated with moving to the cloud. A rushed migration without a clear strategy can end up costing the project more than necessary, with existing legacy applications consuming cloud resources and generating costs at an alarming rate.

In this webinar, Bob Flynn (Internet2) and Jarek Nabrzyski (CI Compass) will discuss the major aspects that need to be taken into consideration by scientists when they think about migrating to the cloud.

Bios: Bob Flynn is the PM of Cloud Infrastructure & Platform Services at Internet2. He joined Internet2 after nearly 25 years of service at Indiana University. For years Bob has helped the higher education community explore, understand, and implement cloud-based hyper-scale technologies and innovations in support of their institutions’ academic and research missions.

Jarek Nabrzyski is the founding director of the Center for Research Computing at Notre Dame (CRC), and a concurrent professor of Computer Science and Engineering. His research is focused on Cyberinfrastructure development and distributed ledger technologies. He enjoys building and managing teams and engaging in complex science and industry collaborations. He was a Principal Investigator on over 50 national and international research and development projects developing cyberinfrastructure for both science and industry.
